Building a Dream on Wheels

Spoiler alert: turning an old bus into a rolling bookstore isn’t exactly as easy as slapping on some shelves and rolling into the sunset. 😅
We’re writing this post somewhere between coffee #3 and a pile of paint-streaked overalls, because Wandering Words is officially in the middle of becoming real—and it’s wild,
exhausting, and kind of magical.
The Vision Was Clear…
We wanted a cozy, creative space on wheels.Somewhere people could walk in, smell paper and espresso, flip through handpicked reads, and feel instantly welcome. We dreamed of a space that moved with the seasons and showed up wherever curiosity calls. A little book bus full of big ideas.
…But the Process? Not So Pretty.
Let’s be honest: this hasn’t been a Pinterest-perfect project. Here’s a glimpse at the chaos behind the curtain:
The bus we found? Slightly haunted. Smelled like damp upholstery and mystery.
The electrical system? Not a fan of the 21st century.
Our first attempt at installing shelves? Let’s just say… gravity had other ideas.
Permits, registrations, inspections, and about 72 trips to the hardware store? Yep, those too.
There were definitely moments when we wondered if we’d bitten off more than we could chew.
But every challenge has been a chapter in the story—and honestly, we wouldn't rewrite a thing.
The Magic Is in the Making
Each crooked screw, paint smudge, and late-night “what if” session has brought us closer to what this is really about:
Creating a space for connection
Putting books into hands that crave them
Building something that reflects freedom, creativity, and community
And now? It’s all coming together.
The shelves are standing. The books are stacked. The vibe is strong. And soon—very soon—we’ll be pulling up to our first stop, ready to invite you in.
